BUILDING A SUCCESSFUL PERSONAL BRAND

There is no branding without CONSISTENCY. It’s not just about having a mantra, you have to show it in your actions.
It’s not just to be known as something, you have to be doing things that proves who you really are.
For example, you can’t call yourself a writer without writing.

Let's take a look at Tems.
When you hear Tems, you think of music. Not just any kind of music but alte. The name Tems is mostly associated with alte music.
You hear the consistency in her sound. You get the same alte vibe from all her songs, nothing less.

Let's take a look again at Lecrae.
When you hear Lecrae, you think of gospel rap. He has built a name for himself by sticking to rapping.

You can't be testing the waters and touching everything hoping to build a brand for yourself. The only thing you will end up building is a brand of confusion in your potential client's mind.
It's okay to explore. But you should first build a personal brand before branching out. Let people know you for a particular thing. That way, you will drag crowds when you branch out into anything.

Another step to building a successful brand is INTEGRITY.
I know how easy it is to just change your mind about what you do because you already have a fan base. But your fan can easily turn to your foe and worse enemy.

Take Coaster biscuit as our example.
It used to be so milky, plenty and just so nice. But right now, it's flat, filled with sugar and has just 3 in it. Don't even blame the economy.
The quality of McVities has not changed despite the economy.
Coaster got lovers and customers so they felt since we have loyal customers, let's reduce the quality.

It’s better to keep the quality and increase the price. People would appreciate you better. Have integrity by keeping the same quality. If anything should happen, it should be that you are getting better.

Finally, let your mantra be “if there is anything worth doing, it is worth doing well”.

Don’t start out and stop midway. See to it that you get everything done with no lapses.
